The Michigan State Univeristy Football team is known as the Spartans. Michigan State University fields varsity teams in the NCAA's Division I and is a member of the Big Ten Conference. Team colors are green and white. MSU was first admitted into the Big Ten in 1953. That very year the Spartans captured the league championship and won their first Rose Bowl. The MSU football team plays its home football games at Spartan Stadium, which seats 75,005. The Spartans finished the 2008 season with an impressive 9-4 record and a post-season trip to the Capital One Bowl.
